Next October Menorca will be the scene of the 1st International Chess Teaching Congress, a conference for circulating and interchanging experiences related to this activity. It is an honour for our island to receive the people from other countries and cultures who will meet here to talk about chess. And it is also an opportunity for us to make our natural surroundings known. 10 years ago Menorca was declared a Biosphere reserve by UNESCO, a distinction which makes us proud and implicates us in the conservation of our island by promoting sustainable development. As President of the Consell Insular de Menorca (Menorca Island Council) I trust that you will be able to discover our heritage and culture during your stay on the island.
